Ear wax is a naturally occurring substance in healthy ears, but it’s quite common for wax to build up in the ear canal and can impair hearing.

Ear Suctioning

We provide Microscopic and micro-suction ear wax removal. It is a procedure where ear wax is removed from the ear under a microscope. The microscope is used to directly visualise the ear wax. The procedure is performed using high-magnification binocular operating microscopes

  • This gentle procedure ensures a safe and effective result and enables a good view of the ear canal under a microscope, helping pick up any other ear health concerns.
  • The procedure will be noisy and you will need to keep your head still.
  • The procedure will take about 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the specific concern and can be stopped at any time at your request.

Minor Surgery

Minor surgery is commonly provided in primary care, allowing for fast, competent removal and biopsies of skin lesions. Other services include cosmetic work such as removal of benign moles and skin tags. Ingrown toenail surgery is also commonly provided.

These conditions do not need to be referred to a hospital, perhaps saving you a long wait or a cancelled appointment when a more serious case takes priority.

Our Doctors are able to provide minor surgery procedures, please book for a pre consultation with one of our Doctors if you would like to access this service.

Another service offered by our clinic is advice and immunisation before you go to another country. While you are likely to have the immunisations needed to live in New Zealand, there may be other injections you need to protect yourself before going for example to Africa or South America. In some places you will need protection from rabies or malaria. Your doctor will be able to tell you what diseases you will need to be protected from in any named country and advise you on other medical matters. To book for a travel appointment please contact our Reception team on 372 3111 to arrange this.

Blood specimen collection is performed routinely to obtain blood for laboratory testing. Blood can be obtained from venous access devices and sometimes by fingerstick. Blood is most frequently obtained via a peripheral vein puncture (venipuncture).

Blood is usually drawn and collected in order to perform a variety of laboratory tests. Specimens are often sent to help diagnose conditions such as electrolyte imbalances, to screen for risk factors like high cholesterol levels, and to monitor the effects of treatments and medications.

Our Nurses are able to perform venesection when required and we also have a range of instant tests that can be performed in urgent cases, which helps our Doctors assess and diagnose, to plan and provide the most effective treatment required.

These tests include:

INR - International Normalized Ratio; A system established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee on Thrombosis and Hemostasis for reporting the results of blood coagulation (clotting) tests. Often used in Warfarin management.

Troponin - a globular protein complex involved in muscle contraction. It occurs with tropomyosin in the thin filaments of muscle tissue; in our clinic this test is performed  when investigating cardiac related presentations

Full Blood Count - A complete blood count (CBC) is a blood test used to evaluate your overall health and detect a wide range of disorders, including anemia, infection and leukemia.

A complete blood count test measures several components and features of your blood, including:

  • Red blood cells, which carry oxygen
  • White blood cells, which fight infection
  • Hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells
  • Hematocrit, the proportion of red blood cells to the fluid component, or plasma, in your blood
  • Platelets, which help with blood clotting

In our this test is performed in urgent cases presenting with symptoms of infection.

D-Dimer - The presence of D-dimers in the blood is a reliable clue that clotting has begun. In our clinic this is used in urgent cases, as a clinical marker for deep venous thrombosis (DVT) (blood clot in the leg).

Our clinical provides a range of treatment via intravenous infusion, this can be to provide treatment for conditions like osteoporosis, low iron, infection and dehydration. This means in some cases our patients can be treated in the community, closer to home and avoid having to be admitted to hospital.

Intravenous infusion is usually given in the arm, by inserting a small temporary needle or cannula (thin plastic tube) into the vein to administer fluids or medication.

Our Nurses are supported by our team of Doctors to provide comprehensive workplace medicals which can include:

  • Discussion of Medical history
  • Lung Function testing
  • Hearing and Vision testing
  • Instant Drug Tests
  • Cardiovascular Disease Risk Assessment
  • General health measurements; height weight and blood pressure

Health insurance often requires an assessment to be signed off or authorised by a Medical practitioner. Our Doctors do provide insurance medicals. Please contact our Reception  team to arrange an appointment.

This type of test yields a rapid drug and/or alcohol result within minutes from the time of a drug test collection. This is often performed during a workplace medical or requested by employers.

A tympanogram is a graphic representation of the relationship between the air pressure in the ear canal and the movement of the eardrum, or tympanic membrane, and the tiny bones in the air-filled middle ear space. When the eardrum is disturbed by a sound, part of the sound is absorbed and sent through the middle ear while the other part of the sound is reflected. The information derived from tympanometry provides additional information regarding middle ear function, especially Eustachian tube function.

Tympanometry is performed by our Nurses and Doctors. First, the clinician will perform visual inspection of your ear canal and eardrum using a lighted scope (otoscope) placed in the ear. Then, a probe with a flexible rubber tip will be placed in your ear. The probe will cause the air pressure in your ear canal to change as you hear some low-pitched tones. The feeling can be similar to the pressure changes felt during takeoff and landing when you’re on a plane. While the pressure is changing, measurements of your eardrum’s movement will be taken and recorded.

Our clinic has two authorised Methadone providers who are able to provide care and support in the management of opioid dependency, focussing on minimizing harm and supporting people towards recovery. Please contact our Reception team for an appointment.
